BRIEF  BACKGROUND:

Distress by the growing social and economic insecurity in their community subservience, in the year 1952 a handful youths decided to proof together their resources and to work towards a common goal. This objective socioeconomic change, according to them, could only be achieved through a series of well planned interventions at the grass-roots. Thus the Manoharpur Matri Sebak Sangha was registered under the Societies Registration Act, West Bengal (Registration No – SO133516) in 2005. Assisted and guided by the experience of a local Welfare Organization, Manoharpur Matri Sebak Sangha, initiated its rapport building activities. This, in time, would be the bulwark on which their Awareness Generation Campaign would be based. These would help in empowering the target population in analyzing their day problems and help in generating development options. It was strongly felt that the complete involvement of all targeted population was imperative to the process of sustainable development.

A series of Need assessments and Base line surveys clearly showed the specific problems that addressed. Accordingly MMSS decided to intervene in the areas of child health, rehabilitation of handicapped, Income generating Environment, Sustainable Agriculture, Mother and Child Health Care, Appropriate Technology, Action Research and Natural Resource Management.Several Community based projects like Awareness on Drinking Water, Health programme, Sanitation, Awareness Camp, Skill development training, Works for Senior Citizen, Cultural programme, Agriculture Seminar, Awareness Camp on Environment, others Awareness programme and Sports & Games have been successfully completed by MMSS bringing the fruits of development of many thousands.
